Getting to know The Boss

This meme has been floating around blogland and I've enjoyed reading this so thought I'd join in.
  1. He's sitting in front of the TV, what is on the screen? Haven, Homeland, The Walking Dead, The Following or any manner of documentaries.  Definitely NOT reality television.  He also loves reruns of old classics, especially the old British comedies - Are You Being Served, Blackadder, Open All Hours, Dad's Army etc.  We have a new channel starting soon dedicated to old shows.  Lord help me!
  2. You're out to eat; what kind of dressing does he get on his salad? Mayonnaise
  3. The most striking thing about his physical appearance? His beautiful brown eyes - aah
  4. You go out to eat and have a drink; what does he order? Wine or coruba and coke
  5. Where did he go to high school? Boys catholic school
  6. What size shoe does he wear? 9, 10
  7. If he was to collect anything what would it be? Anything to do with Bruce Springsteen - books, Cd's, DVDs etc.  Telescopes
  8. What is is favourite type of sandwich? Toasted BLT, peanut butter, raspberry jam
  9. What would he eat every day if he could?  Boysenberry ice cream, shortbread
  10. What is his favourite cereal?  He prefers toast, usually with peanut butter for breakfast but favourite cereal is Hubbard's berry berry nice (a Kiwi made muesli chock full with berries)
  11. What would he never wear? Dress shorts, short sleeve dress shirts
  12. What is his favourite sports team? Crusaders rugby team
  13. Who did he vote for? That's a secret
  14. Who is is best friend? A friend from college (high school)
  15. What is something you do that he wishes you wouldn't do? Negative self talk, asking if he is sure when he makes a decision
  16. What is his heritage? New Zealander
  17. You bake him a cake for his birthday; what kind? Baking is not my forte but it would be either banana, carrot, lemon or ginger.  The man likes cake!
  18. Did he play sports in high school? Yes - rugby (of course!) and cricket
  19. What could he spend hours doing? Watching the night sky through his telescope.  He is mad on astronomy and very knowledgeable on the subject
  20. What is one unique talent he has? He has an incredible wealth of general knowledge and can tell you dates, names, places, celebrity dates of birth/death etc. He has a particularly strong  knowledge of American History and can name all of the Presidents in order plus the term of the presidency.  I don't need to use Wikipedia, I consult my very own Rickipedia!  Trust me, you don't want to be on an opposing quiz team!

You're welcome :) I'll put the kettle on! Unfortunately though, I'm not the greatest baker. I usually cheat and buy them LoL

  4. Can't believe we both have so much in common with Rick! Because he likes peanut butter and toast for breakfast, the Walking Dead and astronomy he's my friend for life, and because he likes old Brit comedies including Dad's Army, and the Homeland series, he's Starman's friend for life. We both like Rugby too and mayonnaise! And as you know, I have a thing about 'brown eyes'. Loved it! Oh, and by the way, we have an American president in our family tree; he was my MIL's great uncle or something, but he wasn't very popular. His surname was Harding.

    Hugs

    3. Ami - I love all these things too. I got him into The Walking Dead and he got me into astronomy. I love it and he has taught me a great deal about the night sky. I too love the old comedies, but it gets tedious at times after so many reruns LoL

Ami and sunny - How awesome Ami that you have a President in your family tree. Naturally, I consulted my Rickipedia and discovered the following:

Warren Gamaliel Harding was the 29th US President from Jan 1921 to August 1923. He was popular while in office but a scandal known as the Teapot Dome Scandal tarnished his reputation. He awarded friends high up positions in his administration who took bribes to award contracts etc to certain companies.

He died in office and was succeeded by Calvin Coolidge.

Willie - I would so love to be able to do that. It would be so awesome! Just the girls though maybe. It's too dangerous getting HoH's together LoL

    1. Hi Zoe, Rick is a massive fan and it was such a great disappointment that Bruce recently came to Australia but not here as we unfortunately couldn't get to one of the Aussie shows.

Any fan of Bruce's is a friend to Rick! LoL

  6. Please, Please, PLEASE tell me this is not all at once! {Toasted BLT, peanut butter, raspberry jam} lol. Just saying, blt with pbj sandwich... not that adventurous. :) So, sounds like Rick likes facts as much as the Duke. Maybe they have photographic memories???

    1. Hi Es May,

LoL! No, not all together, and he doesn't have the jam with the peanut butter either. In fact, he has this little quirke where it has to be the same spread on the toast, he can't have one piece PB and the other jam. They both have to be the same. If he has 4 he will have the same thing on 2 and something different on the other 2.

He amazes me how he can come up with facts/dates etc. I think they must have photographic memories!

  12. Thanks for warning me. No quizzing with Rick. Still I'm glad that I'm not the only one who is treated as an encyclopaedia.

    But all the American Presidents?
I'm already glad that I can remember most of the European kings.
I would have loved to see the Southern skies.

    1. Hi Cat, lovely to see you, I've missed you :)

There was one particular occasion where Rick was on a quiz team and one of the questions was they were given a map of the US and had to fill in all the States. He one the quiz for the team. In fact, I think he was the only one across all teams.

Peanut butter on toast is my favourite too :)

  17. It's great getting to know your guy! I can name all the presidents because we had to learn them in a song when I was in high school, and I can almost sing the Animaniacs "Presidents" song perfectly, because I love that show's songs. But knowing all the terms too, that's impressive, lol! My guy hates my negative self talk also. He's actually been cracking down on it lately too, ugh!
    Thanks for sharing! :)

I've just learnt something else. I hadn't hear of Animaniacs or the song. I'm amazed at the different things I've been learning reading through reading this memo and from comments. Sounds like Rick would be in good company :)

Oh yes, the negative self talk. Gets you into trouble every time doesn't it!

  20. This was fun to read Roz! :). The night sky in NZ and Australia is supposed to be really amazing. I would imagine that Rick has a lot to look at and study with his interest in astronomy. Rob has always dreamed of going to one of those places to look at the stars, among other things! Hugs to you, Roz! Sounds like an HoH with a lot of neat interests! :)
